Black & White Blurred Lines

Good Saturday morning you awesome and amazing war torn camera geeks! Just thought I’d do a quick study on “film like” black and white photography as it’s one of my favorite themes and something I’ve been practicing for years ❤️

Plus I REALLY have to get back to this platform! I really hate making YouTube videos but it’s a necessary evil in today’s world.

See if you can figure out what’s film and what’s not! Take a few seconds before you read the answers…

Ok here’s the answers:

1) Google Pixel 7 Pro with built in editing
2) Leica M9 & LLL 35mm f2 Eight Element
3) Nikon F3 & 50mm f/1.8 Series E T-Max 400
4) Nikon SP & 35mm f/1.8 Nikkor & Holga 400 film
5) Ricoh GRD Original 8mp

What are my takes from this…

1) Image #1: POTD! ❤️ You can do almost anything with your phone camera these days! I just tweaked the tones and the #grit to my liking. It may or may not be film like but that doesn’t matter as much as the subject or subjects and the situation. Those things are far more important to making the image.

2) Gangsta!  Is it film like or digital? It is what it is! For me it’s the mural, the Gangsta! 

3) Image #3: Film doesn’t always have to look gritty or grainy. It depends on the film, the developer, the light, the exposure ❤️

4) Image #4: Sometimes film can get very grainy! 

5) Image #5: The tones from the original Ricoh GRD are still my favorite! However the dead giveaway that it’s digital are the blown highlights and overall sharp “edges” of the pic. Film can blow highlights too but there’s usually a softer edge to film images 

Anyway the whole point to this post is to say with the #blurredlines between film and digital bw these days, it doesn’t matter really what you shoot as long as YOU love the images. That is all that counts!

Thanks for checking this out and have an awesome weekend you guys! ❤️

  1. Greetings from the USA. I enjoyed your words. I wish more photographers would talk about photography and life. Especially on a personal blog. I saved your link quite some time ago, so it’s good to see you have made more posts.

    All the best!
