The Art Of UGLY. Why THIS Toy Camera Can Change The Way You Shoot

Good day camera freaks and geeks! Just keeping you guys in the loop. Consider this an addendum to the latest video:

Ugliness is not a new concept in photography. However, it’s still far from the norm. Very few like Daido Moriyama and Robert Frank could do it well. Even fewer can pass “ugly” photos off as art.

There are few people I know whose work with classic Lofi cameras like Holga cameras are inspiring and amazing.

Posting that video was a risk for me. As I’ve mentioned many times before, any time I do a video that’s not gear centric, people don’t watch!

In fact, my first video took a whole year to catch on. I got no help from the YouTube algorithm and it only caught on because people “discovered” it.

At this point I already have an idea of what the wider audience might want to see but this video was really for my core audience.

In this video, I took a cult classic toy camera, the Superheadz Digital Harinezumi and used it following the spirit and techniques of the Masters, namely Daido Moriyama and Robert Frank.

I look at their photos and dissect some of their techniques and I applied it to how I approach this camera and it made all the difference.

Just like many of my fellow photographers and YouTubers, I tire of doing the same tired old camera reviews.  In fact, I got to the point where I just feel bad about creating Camera G.A.S. and helping you guys waste money πŸ˜‚

The video is not catching on with the algorithm but I’m thankful for those who watched and the positive feedback they gave.

I will continue to do more videos like this because I really believe at some point I have to stop talking about cameras and start showing how I use them. At some point guys, we have to start using our cameras and lenses 😍

I’m going through my whole catalog here on WordPress and will convert the best articles into YouTube videos.

This video is actually a result of articles I wrote here back in 2014 and 2016!

Thanks for reading and have an awesome day ahead you guys! ο˜Žο“Έβ€οΈο‘
